Abstract

1461651 Suspended scaffolding R PETREN 21 May 1974 [25 May 1973] 22718/74 Heading E1S A suspended scaffolding, e.g. for a ship's hull, comprises a plurality of vertically spaced platforms (of which only the top platform 4 is shown) interconnected by suspension means, e.g. chains 8, further suspension means, e.g. chains 5, 6, for suspending the top platform of the scaffolding from attachments 2 on the working surface e.g. of the hull, the suspension means 5, 6 being of adjustable effective lengths, so that the platforms can be disposed horizontally adjacent differently inclined surfaces, and fittings 10 at the corners of the top platform 4 which serve for connecting the respective suspension means, e.g. chains 5, 6, 8, and also for connecting further suspension means (not shown) for suspending the scaffolding from a crane during installation. The crane suspension means may include wires hanging from a beam and having hooks for engaging pins in the fittings 10; this is disconnected when the chains 5, 6 have been secured. The chains 5, 6 engage slotted plates in the fittings 10 and are fastened by pins 18. The platform has retractable legs 9 for engaging the working surface, and a retractable guard rail 7. The lower end (not shown) of the scaffolding is drawn in towards the working surface and secured by chains below the lowest platform either to further attachments 2 or to the fittings 10 of another like scaffolding beneath.
