Abstract

1461595 Pile fabrics BLACKWOOD MORTON & SONS Ltd 23 April 1974 [2 May 1973 3 July 1973] 20796/73 and 31699/73 Heading D1K A pile fabric is produced by joining a "mother" pile fabric adhesively to a backing 13 by causing the mother pile fabric to form a flexion, for example around a roller 22 and subsequently cutting the pile by means of a cutter 26. Adhesive is spread by a roller 19 and doctor blade 20 and a heater 24 and cooler 25 may be provided. A presser roller 23 and not shown backing plate is provided. The apparatus may be modified as in Fig. 2 by a tuft-deflector bar 27 to assist securing tuft ends in the adhesive. The heater may be replaced with an induction oven comprising air jets to secure the tufts in the adhesive. The backing 13 may be hessian polypropylene and polyester. The backing may be coated with a backing of resilient foamed plastics or latex backing.
