1461539 Wrapping machines STONE CONTAINER CORP 27 Dec 1974 [27 Feb 1974] 55943/74 Heading B8C A wrapping machine is described for performing the method of Specification 1,413,603 of wrapping goods in a first blank having a central and two opposite side panels and flanges all around the periphery of the blank, and in a second blank also having a central and two opposite side panels which is secured to the flanges of the first blank to form a cuboidal package. A carriage 70 having suction cups 72 to grip the central panel of a first blank pulls the first blank and goods downwardly into a bucket 90 while stationary folding members (64-68) fold the side panels upwardly and the flanges on the sides of the blank inwardly. The bucket comprises four adjustable corner members (91-94) which hold the first blank folded and have abutment strips (98) to locate the folded flanges. As the bucket is moved along guide rails 101, bars 111 (112) fold the flanges on the top of the side panels downwardly while edges of plates 115 (116) engage the inner surfaces of the fold lines between the flanges and the panels. The second blank drops from a magazine and is fed by a tined pusher (41) on guide rails 131, 132 to beneath hold down bars 211, 212 on an elevator 150. The bucket moves beneath the second blank and the elevator 150 lifts the loaded and folded first blank against the second blank. As the second blank is raised rods 141- 143 fold the side panels downwardly, the guide rails 131, 132 being partially cut away to permit this. The folded package is then pushed by bars 225, 226 into a compression chamber composed of top rods and of side rods forming continuations of the rods 141-143, to secure the margin of the second blank to the flanges of the first blank by adhesive previously applied or applied by applicators (42-48) in the machine to the first or second blank.
