Abstract

1461463 Dry shavers PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 14 March 1974 [31 March 1973] 11434/74 Heading B4B A dry shaver comprises a rotatable cutter 4 for co-operation with a cutter guard 2 provided with hair inlet apertures 3 and pivotally mounted with respect to a guard holder 17, the guard being formed with a part spherical surface 20 urged by resilient means 19 into co-operation with a mating surface provided in a socket 16 formed in the holder. The cutter 4 is rotated by a motor, located in a housing 6, via gears 7, 8 Fig. 1, and a drive pin 10, which is loaded by a spring located within a drive stud 9 so as to urge the cutter into contact with the cutter guard. The resilient means 19 is in the form of a spring bent so as to engage a lower edge 25 of the cutter guard and a retaining plate 21 secured to the holder by a screw 22. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the spring 19 of Fig. 1, is replaced by coil spring (26) located between tags (27) on the retaining plate (28) and a ring (29) secured to the inner edge of the cutter guard. In a further modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the cutter guard (36) is urged into contact with its seat (42) by means of magnet (39); a starshaped wire spring (44) is secured to the guard (36) thereby preventing the guard from falling out of its seat in the holder (38). In the construction shown in Fig. 9, the cutter guard 77 is mounted in a separate ring 81 having a spherical surface 82 which is urged into contact with its seat 78 by a supporting member 56 connected to a plate 86, the holder 80 being loaded by a tension spring 83; the tension spring may be replaced by compression springs (53), Fig. 7 (not shown). The supporting member 56 is provided with pivots 63 thereby allowing the cutter guard to tilt in any direction; alternatively, the supporting member 56 may be replaced by a bearing member (70), (Fig. 8 (not shown), having a spherical surface for engagement with a corresponding surface (73) in a support plate 69.
