Abstract

1459921 Stud and socket fastenings; digger teeth assembly CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 2 Jan 1974 00117/74 Headings E1F and E2B A digger tooth assembly includes a pin retaining means comprising a resilient member 22 having a pin receiving bore 26 therethrough, pin engageable members resiliently supported in the resilient member and extending partially into the bore, the pin engageable member in use exerting equal and oppositely directed retaining force upon a pin inserted in the bore. A tooth 14 of an earth moving machine is secured to an adaptor 10 extending into a recess in the tooth by the pin 30 passing through aligned holes in the tooth and adaptor, the pin being retained by the resilient member 22 having clip elements 20 shaped as shown in Fig. 2 embedded partially in the member and extending into the bore to retain the pin by engaging grooves in opposite faces thereof. As shown in Fig. 5, the clip elements are U-shaped and as shown in Fig. 7 they have the form of plates. As shown in Fig. 4 the central part of the adaptor is recessed and the central rear part of the tooth is complementarily formed, the gap between these parts being greater than gap between inclined surfaces.
