Abstract
1459480 Friction clutches; clutch release bearings AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 29 Aug 1975 [20 Sept 1974] 41107/74 Headings F2C and F2L In a diaphragm spring friction clutch a clutch release bearing assembly 18 is secured to the radially inner ends of the diaphragm spring fingers 17 by a tubular member 27 which has a radial flange or set of tabs 32 between which and the spring fingers 17 biasing means 41 are provided to bias a race 23 of the release bearing against the spring fingers 17 through engagement of a shoulder 34 of the tubular member with the race 23. As shown the biasing means comprises a spring washer 41 acting on the fingers 17 through a thrust ring 39. The spring washer 41 may be replaced by axial deformation of the thrust ring (43) (Fig. 2, not shown). The fingers 17 are shown formed with a convex portion 37 engaged by the race 23 but the race may have a convex portion and the fingers may be flat (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown). A cover member 26 is provided for the bearing and this may have tabs which engage between the fingers 17 to hold race 23 against rotation relative to the diaphragm spring 16 (Fig. 3, not shown). Alternatively the spring washer may have tabs engaging the tubular member 27 and the spring fingers 17. A race may be a sheet metal pressing.
