Abstract

1458573 Lubricants BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 15 Jan 1975 [4 Feb 1974] 5007/74 Heading C5F A lubricating oil comprises (a) an ester or mixture of esters derived from an alcohol that has one or more hydroxyl groups and from 6 to 18 carbon atoms in its molecule and an acid that has one or more carboxyl groups and from 6 to 20 carbon atoms in its molecule, and (b) a polybutene or hydrogenated polybutene of number-average molecular weight 2000 to 4500. Specific acids and alcohols referred to are caproic, oenanthic, caprylic, polargonic, adipic, pimelic, suberic, azelaic and sebacic acids and iso-octyl, n-octyl, 3,5,5-trimethylhexyl, decyl and dodecyl alcohols, trimethylol-propane and pentaerythritol. Known additives may also be present, e.g. polybutenes of higher molecular weight, polymethacrylates, polyacrylates; zinc and other dithio-phosphates; tricresyl phosphate, sulphurized isobutene and oligomers; metal sulphonates, phosphonates, phenates and salicylates; long chain alkenyl-succinimides, amides, esters, polyesters and amine salts; metal dithiocarbamates, hindered phenols and aromatic amines.
