Abstract

1472142 Lubricants MOBIL OIL CORP 1 April 1975 [30 May 1974] 13221/75 Heading C5F Rust inhibiting additives for lubricating oils comprises 1-naphthol, 2-naphthol or 1-nitroso-2- naphthol mixed with a sulphonate of a group II metal, e.g. Ba, Sr, Ca, Mg and Zn. The sulphonate may be overbased. The lubricating oil medium may be an hydraulic oil or a turbine oil. The composition may also contain a longchain hydrocarbyl-substituted organic condensation product having 20-300 carbon atoms in the substituent. Suitable products include an ester of an alkenylsuccinic anhydride and an alcohol of 1-4 OH groups, e.g. a polyester of a polybutenylsuccinic anhydride and pentaerythritol. Another suitable product is an alkenylsuccinimide of an ethylenepolyamine of formula H 2 N(C 2 H 4 NH) n -H wherein n is 1 to 10, e.g. a bis-(polybutenylsuccinimide) of tetraethylenepentamine.
