Abstract

1458354 Hair preparations UNILEVER Ltd 17 Jan 1974 [17 Jan 1973] 2513/73 Heading A5B A hair control preparation for holding the hair in a desired configuration comprises a solution of 2-20% by weight of a volatile normally solid material (i.e. a material which is solid at 20‹C yet which is volatile at that temperature) and a perfume. The preparation may also comprise less than 0.5 parts by weight of a film-forming resin for each part by weight of the volatile material. The preparation may be presented in the form of an aerosol hairspray and, for that purpose, may include a liquefied gaseous propellant (e.g. trichlorofluoromethane or dichlorodifluoromethane). The volatile material may be camphor, camphene, feuchyl alcohol, propionamide, menthol, thymol, methyl-2-naphthylketone, hexachlorethane, benzophenone or acetamide and this material may be dissolved in a volatile organic solvent such as methylene chloride, ethanol, isopropanol or 2-methoxyethanol. The ethanol may be used in the form of industrial methylated spirit and may contain an additional denaturant (e.g. sucrose octaacetate). Various copolymers of vinylacetate or methyl acrylate or methyl vinyl ether are specified as film-forming resins.
