Abstract

A hair-control composition comprises (1) at least one water-soluble resinous material selected from polyacrylic resins, polyvinylpyrrolidone, vinylpyrrolidone-vinyl acetate copolymers, said copolymers containing not more than 50% of vinyl acetate, and dimethyl hydantoin formaldehyde resin; (2) a stiffening agent of the type: <FORM:0868879/IV (a)/1> where R1 and R2 are hydroxyl or alkoxy radicals containing 1-3 carbon atoms each, X is 0, 1 or 2, Y is 0, 1 or 2, R is one of the following radicals: <FORM:0868879/IV (a)/2> and where R1 and R2 may be the same or different and, if X or Y is 2, the radicals in the same benzene ring may be the same or different; (3) perfume; and (4) a solvent for the resinous material, stiffening agent and perfume. Hair conditioners such as lanolin derivatives and silicones may also be present and the composition may also comprise gaseous propellants such as CCl3F and CCl2F2 when it is to be used from an aerosol dispenser. The dimethyl hydantoin resin preferably has a molecular weight of 240 to 300. Examples of the stiffening agent are: diphenylmethane, diphenylmethylamine, benzophenone, diphenyl propanedione-1, 3 and various benzophenone derivatives. The solvent may be ethanol and many perfumes with lists of ingredients are specified, including terpenes and essential oils, eugenol, isoeugenol, phenyl ethyl alcohol, heliotropin and various aldehydes, esters, ketones and alcohols.ALSO:A hair control composition comprises (1) at least one water - soluble resinous material selected from polyacrylic resins, polyvinylpyrrolidone, vinylpyrrolidone-vinyl acetate copolymers (said copolymers containing not more than 20% of vinyl acetate) and dimethyl hydantoin formaldehyde resin; (2) a stiffening agent of the type <FORM:0868879/VI/1> where R1 and R2 are hydroxyl or alkoxy radicals containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms each, X is 0, 1 or 2, Y is 0, 1 or 2, R is one of the following radicals: -CH2-, -CH2.CH2-, -CH2.CH2.CH2-, <FORM:0868879/VI/2> , <FORM:0868879/VI/3> , <FORM:0868879/VI/4> , <FORM:0868879/VI/5> or <FORM:0868879/VI/6> and where R1 and R2 may be the same or different and, if X or Y is 2, the radicals in the same benzene ring may be the same or different; (3) perfume; (4) a solvent for the resinous material, stiffening agent and perfume.
