Abstract

1457776 Electro-photography XEROX CORP 22 Feb 1974 8123/74 Heading G2H [Also in Division F2] A roller suitable for use either as a photoconductor drum body or as a developer applicator comprises a flexible cylindrical layer of metal, Fig. 1, supported on a tubular resilient member 3, and a means 4, 5 for urging the tubular resilient member radially against the flexible layer. The flexible layer 2 may be a photo-conductive insulating layer of selenium coated on a conductive substrate of brass, copper, aluminium or nickel. The tubular resilient member 3 may be made of nitrile rubber and expanded by segments 5 upon axial compression of a washer 6 by a nut 7. Alternatively, the segments 21, Fig. 4, may be expanded by circumferentially-spaced plates 9, which pivot upon axial movement of a screwthreaded shaft 20 by a nut 22. Fig. 6 shows an electrostatographic copying device 10 in which the imaging roller 23 rotates past a charging corona 11 and an imaging station 12 where it is exposed to a light and shadow image of the original 13. After passing a development station 14 and a transfer station 15 the image is received by paper 16 and the roller cleaned by a wiper blade 25.
