Abstract

1456984 Razors GILLETTE INDUSTRIES Ltd 22 Jan 1974 [31 Jan 1973] 4905/73 Heading B4B A safety razor comprises at least one blade 21 and cooperating guard surface 5, the blade being mounted for movement relative to the guard surface and means 9, 16, 18 for rapidly reciprocating the blade so that its cutting edge moves towards and away from the guard surface. As shown a pair of blades 21, Fig. 3 are clamped between a pair of plastics members 22, 23 to form a composite blade unit, the plastics members may be replaced by stainless steel connected by spot welding. The unit is retained by a spring (27) Fig. 1 (not shown) on the end of a lever 18 pivoted at 19, the lever being oscillated by an eccentric 16 formed on a shaft 13; the shaft is rotated by a motor 9 energized by a battery 10. An elastomeric sleeve 20 is provided for preventing entry of shaving debris into the motor. In modifications the cutting edges of the blades may face in the same direction or the unit may only include a single blade.
