Abstract

1275322 Razors GILLETTE CO 28 April 1970 [7 May 1969] 20332/70 Heading B4B In a safety razor the length of the blade in use during shaving is supported by a flexible blade support platform 23 mounted on a handle portion 22 for flexing between its ends 24, 25, Fig. 2, to vary the curvature of the platform 23 and hence the curvature of a blade along the shaving length. In the razor described, the shaving length of a strip-like blade 11 is located on platform 23 by lugs 26, 27 and its cutting edge 12 extends adjacent teeth 37 at one edge of the platform. A knob 18 comprising a conical portion 65 and a dial 67 is rotatable mounted in slots 101 and 75 in the handle portion 22 and a co-operating cap 20. The knob has an axial bore with an internal helical thread in which helical portions 58 on an adjusting rod 53 are received with a friction fit. The rod 53 is attached to the plat. form 23 so that rotation of knob 18 varies the curvature of the blade. The cap 20 carries a blade guard 80 in the form of a C-clamp having an upper portion 81 which clamps the blade and a lower portion 82 which engages the underside of platform 23. Each portion 81, 82 consists of ridges 88, 89 connected by flexible strips 92, Fig. 4. The blade is advanced by a handle 50, rotation of which operates a counter 15.
