Abstract
1456189 Apparatus for winding side-by-side windings MESSER GRIESHEIM GmbH 17 April 1975 [20 April 1974] 15883/75 Heading D1J Side-by-side turns of wire are wound on a flanged drum 36, Fig. 6, by means of a sliding carriage 60 that is traversed by a friction wheel 82 pressing against a drive cylinder 52. The friction wheel 82 is carried by a shaft 68 that extends through the carriage 60, the shaft 68 carrying a control lever 76 with yarn guide means 78 at its free end. At the upper end of the shaft 68 is a yarn guide pulley. In operation, Fig. 5, the yarn 18 passes over the pulley 74 and onto the drum 36 via the guide means 78 at the end of the lever 76. Assuming that the turns are being laid on the drum 36 from left to right this will cause the lever 76 to first lag on the turns being laid and to then swing slightly to the right, thus causing the friction wheel 82 to turn through a corresponding angle. The resulting inclination of the axis of the friction wheel 82 to the axis of the drive cylinder 52 will cause the carriage 60 to move from left to right. When the layer of windings is completed, the wire abuts against an end flange of the drum 36, jumps up to the level of the next layer and commences to be wound up from right to left. This causes the lever 76 to be tilted to the left and, as a result of the new inclined setting of the axis of the friction wheel 82 to the drive cylinder 52 causes the carriage 60 to traverse to the left also. The drive cylinder 52 may be of cast steel or grey cast iron, and the friction wheel 82 of plastics material or hard rubber.
