Abstract

1455958 Marine risers REGAN OFFSHORE INTERNATIONAL INC 9 Sept 1974 [30 Nov 1973] 39266/74 Heading E1F [Also in Division F2] The sections 21 of a marine riser extending between a subsea wellhead and a floating vessel or platform are latched together endto-end in sealed telescopic relation at 25-27 and each is fitted with an open-bottom jacket 42 depending from a flange 29 and defining a buoyancy chamber 40. A gas supply line 51 extending along the riser has fittings 58, 59 clamped between flanges 28, 29 of adjacent riser sections and communicates with a valve 50 in each buoyancy chamber, each valve (Fig. 5) including a closure member 57 connected to a float 55 which causes the closure member to engage its seat 54 when the water level in the respective chamber has been depressed to a predetermined extent by the gas admitted to the chamber. Each valve also includes a flow restrictive port 53 to minimize gas losses if the valve should fail to close and to allow continued buoyancy control at the other sections. The riser includes choke and kill lines as at 31. A bleed line may be connected to the top of each buoyancy chamber to allow control of the water level therein.
