Abstract

1455690 Printers RAPIFAX CORP 4 Dec 1973 [4 Dec 1972] 56032/73 Heading G4H In a printer, a print head has a row of electrodes controlled from a dynamic shift register which can be recirculated. As disclosed, the printer is electrostatic and a row of evennumbered electrodes is spaced in the direction of document movement from a row of oddnumbered electrodes by two (or three or more) times the distance between successive rows of printed dots on the document. The oddnumbered bits of a data stream from a source are routed to the odd-numbered electrodes in turn, and the even-numbered bits are passed into the shift register which has a bit-capacity two (or three or more) times half the number of electrodes, the bits emerging from the output of the shift register being routed to the evennumbered electrodes in turn. When the source signals that it is not supplying data, the shift register is recirculated to maintain the stored data.
