Abstract

1454992 Embedding conduits in concrete DRAKE & SCULL ENG Ltd 29 Oct 1973 [27 July 1972] 35270/72 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions E1 and H2] A passageway for electrical cable is formed in a cast-in-situ or pre-cast structure 20, e.g. a concrete wall or floor, by placing within the shuttering or mould 12 a box 10 having at least one hole therein, threading a conduit 14 or 15 through the hole so as to extend across the interior of the box and outwardly thereof, pouring concrete into the shuttering or mould so that a surface of the box forms part of the surface of the cast structure 20, removing at least part of that surface of the box, and removing at least part of the conduit inside the box, whereby cables may be threaded into the remaining part of the conduit embedded in the cast structure and forming the passageway. The removable part of the surface of the box 10 is preferably a cap 11 having snap-fit engagement with a collar round an opening in the box, the cap being, fastened to the shuttering during casting. To serve as a junction box, the box 10 has several opposed pairs of holes to receive conduits, any unused holes being plugged during casting. The box and conduits are of plastics. For mounting electrical fittings in the box, a metal stirrup, (Figs. 6 to 9, not shown) having snap-fit engagement with the collar, is provided.
