Abstract

1454443 Carpet fabrics DAVID CRABTREE & SON Ltd and H COATES 12 Feb 1975 [12 Feb 1974] 06230/74 Heading D1K Carpet producing apparatus comprises a matrix 10 having holes 11 into which individual tufts of yarn 4 are introduced by an inserted needle 34. Protruding bights 17 of yarn are anchored to a pre-formed backing, or material formed in situ. Yarns are fed through an apertured plate 43 by resilient fingers 45. The ends of the yarns are gripped by grippers 54, 58 and tufts of desired length withdrawn and cut by a blade 67. Patterning may be achieved by selective presentation of yarn to the grippers or by arranging a series of yarn supplies &c over the path of the matrix. Several matrices may be assembled to form a carpet of desired dimensions. Alternatively the production may be a continuous process using a continuous flexible, punched, matrix.
