Abstract

1454330 Automatic control of speed BENDIX CORP 27 June 1974 [2 July 1973] 28568/74 Heading G3R A speed governor arrangement for an I.C. engine having an electronic fuel injection system, includes an hydraulic actuator arrangement for operating the throttle to maintain the engine speed constant which actuator uses a regulated supply of highpressure fuel to provide a force. In the embodiment shown an engine speed signal, preferably derived from a pick-up 12 associated with the engine ignition distributer, is used both in an electronic fuel injection system control 10 and after conversion to a D.C. signal is compared with a reference speed signal in comparator 84 to produce a speed error signal. The error signal is modified in function generator 86 and applied to a solenoid 90 which actuates a flow modulator 92 to regulate the flow of pressurized fuel to the actuator 45 to operate the throttle plates and control the air-flow into the engine. The throttle pedal of the vehicle is provided with a lost motion device so that the automatic control can function without moving the pedal. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown) the timing pulses are compared in a frequency comparator with a pulse reference signal and the fluid-flow is modulated by an on-off valve.
