Abstract

1454261 Pneumatic discharge of hoppers PIKROSE & CO Ltd 15 Feb 1974 [17 Nov 1972] 53242/72 Heading B8A Material in a storage vessel is loosened and caused to flow for discharge by rapidly releasing into the mass of material a predetermined mass of gas under high pressure. The figure shows a device to be inserted in a hole in the wall 38 of a hopper to inject air at high pressure. The air supply enters via a valve system 32 and inlet pipe 29, forcing piston 25 to the left to close discharge valve 18, air leaking past inlet valve 26 into reservoir 10. When the pressure in the reservoir has reached the predetermined level, valve member 35 is closed, valve 36 is opened to allow discharge of air from the right of piston 25. The piston then moves to the right opening valve 18 and the air passes rapidly along pipe 14 and through jets 16 into the material. Alternative embodiments are shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
