Abstract
1454252 Blow head for glass blowing OWENS-ILLINOIS Inc 22 April 1975 16519/75 Heading C1M A blow head for use in blowing a parison in a final shape mould (e.g. in an I.S. type glass forming machine) comprises a first passage for the blowing gas and a second passage for allowing the gas to escape from the parison into an exhaust chamber and thence to the atmosphere, the two passages being contained within a main body member, wherein the exhaust chamber contains a system for the partial absorbing of sound energy in the gas to be exhausted. In Fig. 1 the compressed gas (e.g. air) is introduced through tube 18 which is inserted in axial opening 16 in main body member 10, the gas escapes from the parison through counterbore 58 (an enlarged part of opening 16) (see Fig. 2) axial holes 22 into the evacuation chamber formed by cover-plates 24 and 25 and thence to atmosphere through holes 26, 27, 30 and 31. The cover-plates have baffle members 32, 33, 36 and 37 and therebetween is an acoustical energy absorbing material 38 (e.g. of a metal felt with a void content of 20-90%). The ratio of area of openings 26, 27, 30 and 31 to the area of openings 22 is preferably between 5 and 10.
