1453658 Irradiation grafting process TEXTILKOMBINAT COTTBUS VEB 28 Aug 1974 [29 Aug 1973] 37586/74 Heading C3G A polymer is contacted with a polymerizable compound at a temperature from above the glass transition point of the polymer up to the boiling point of the polymerizable compound, then squeezed out and irradiated at ambient temperature. Examples are given in which (i) polyamide fabric is impregnated with aqueous acrylic acid solution at 90‹ C., squeezed out and subjected to irradiation with accelerated electrons; (ii) polyester material is sprayed with aqueous maleic anhydride solution at 90‹ C., squeezed out and irradiated as in (i); and (iii) cellulose fibres are contacted with aqueous methacrylic acid solution at 95‹ C., squeezed out, left wound up on a mandrel at 70‹ C. for 1 hour and irradiated as in (i).
