Abstract

1453330 Cryogenic tanks WHESSOE Ltd 5 March 1975 [6 March 1974] 10142/74 Heading F4P A cryogenic tank comprises a peripheral wall 2 resting on the ring wall 6 of a heat insulating base which also includes an insulating body 3 surrounded by wall 6, the insulating blocks of the wall 6 and body 3 being arranged in identical layers and there being sheets 7 provided between the layers of body 3, which sheets extend between the corresponding layers of wall 6. The tank shown is double-walled and the outer circumference of the load-bearing ring wall 6 stops short of the outer shell 1. The wall 2 is supported on wall 6 via an anti-friction layer of sand. The blocks 5 of body 3 are preferably of foamed glass, and the blocks of wall 6 preferably of lightweight concrete or foamed slag aggregate. Sheets 7 desirably extend beyond the periphery of ring wall 6 so as to be turned down over the respective layer of blocks for sealing connection to the next sheet down.
