Abstract

1452973 Fertilizers based on fowl droppings J KREMER-HOLTGEN 14 Jan 1974 [1 June 1973] 01694/74 Heading C1B An odourless fertilizer is produced by (i) mixing fowl excrement, peat, calcium superphosphate, and optionally some previously fermented mixture. (ii) allowing the mixture to undergo aerobic fermentation, and (iii) drying the fermented mixture. The process may be carried out as illustrated in the drawing wherein poultry excrement is delivered by tanker lorry 1 and discharged into pit 2, and peat and superphosphate 3 are introduced into pit 7. Conveyers 5, 5<SP>1</SP> deliver the components to mixer 6 which discharges into tank 7<SP>1</SP> from whence the mix is transported by conveyer to screen 4 preferably of triangular cross-section. After fermentation for a few days the heap is stirred, e.g. by advancing to the next screen 4. On completion of the fermentation, generally after 25-28 days, the fermented product is collected in a pit from which it is conveyed into grinding mill 8 and then into two-way drier 9. The product is allowed to cool in heap 10 and then put into bags 11. A typical fertilizer has the following composition: dry matter 90%, organic matter 55%, organic carbon 22%, pH 7À0, specific gravity 0À280, ammonia (gaseous) 2À12 to 4À10, (equivalent to ammonia (NH 4 OH) 4À43 to 8À56%), phosphoric acid 0À80%, potassium 1À70%, magnesium 0À16%, C/N ratio 8À0 : 1.
