Abstract

145,293. Wescott, D. E. Aug. 5, 1919. Lighting systems.-A switch in an arc lamp or constant current circuit is used to control the supply through a transformer to a number of auxiliary incandescent lamp circuits which can be extinguished separately. The switch 8 is in the main arc-lamp circuit, which also contains two electro-magnets 9. 14 for the primary and secondary of the transformer. The secondary is divided, the separate lamp circuits being connected to the parts. With both switches 9, 14 closed all the circuits are under supply; with the switch 9 only closed, only a part of the auxiliary lamp circuits are energized. To enable the switch 9 to be closed, when the switch 14 is open, the latter has a rod 25 suspended from the movable contact member 16; this rod carries a cross-pin 27 which enters either deep or shallow notches in a ring 31. When in the shallow notch the switch cannot close, although the electro-magnet is energized by closing the switch 8. To move the cross-pin round from a deep to a shallow notch and vice versa the switch 8 is opened momentarily. The pin in dropping falls on inclined teeth 42 in a second ring 30 and moves round; when the switch 8 is closed again the contact in rising brings the cross-pin into the next notch and so holds the switch open or allows it to close according as to whether it was previously closed or open. When the switch 8 is left open all the lamps are extinguished. Specification 145,200 is referred to.
