Abstract

1452620 Packaging UNILEVER Ltd 29 Nov 1973 [30 Nov 1972] 55410/73 Heading B8C A measured quantity of non-free flowing goods, e.g. tobacco or French beans, in a cylindrical dosing chamber 1 rotating about its principal axis XX is transferred to an open container 10 by bringing the chamber into coaxial open communication with a moulding chamber 7 having the same cross-sectional shape as that of the container and transferring the goods from the dosing chamber, whilst still rotating, into the moulding chamber by raising a piston 2 rotating with the dosing chamber, bringing the filled moulding chamber and open container 10 into aligment, and lowering a plunger 9 in the moulding chamber to transfer the goods to the container. By effecting transfer from the dosing chamber to the moulding chamber whilst the former is rotating, the formation of empty spaces in the latter is avoided. During movement of the moulding chamber between its respective aligned positions with the dosing chamber and container, its open bottom is closed by a retractable slide 8. The moulding chamber has a rectangular shape corresponding to that of the container and has a volume equivalent to that of the dosing chamber when the piston 2 and plunger 9 are in their retracted positions.
