Abstract

800,105. Moulding ice-cream &c. HOYER, O. G. Dec. 13, 1955 [Dec. 17, 1954], No. 35816/55. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XIII] Plastic material, e.g., ice-cream, is shaped into blocks in freezing cells revolving at a constant level in a rotary freezing machine into which it is fed in a frozen state from a filling machine having a container 31 and at least one row of outlet tubes 34 which are moved down towards the bases of the cells and are then moved upwards as the plastic material is discharged, to avoid the formation of air pockets in the cells, the container and outlet tubes being carried by a vertically movable member, e.g., a tube 4, connected to a rod 7 carrying a roller 8 engaged by a cam 9. On rotating the cam 9 from the position shown the container 31 moves downwardly and each tube 34 passes into a freezing cell 41 to be telescoped into a tube 33. On the downward movement a drum 14, having cylindrical transverse bores 25 containing free pistons 26, is withdrawn clear of the lower ends of rods 27, and the bores 25 above the pistons 26 are filled with ice-cream. A cam 24 now operates a toothed rack 22 to rotate a gear wheel 20 which, through a pawl 19 and ratchet wheel 18, turns the drum 14 through 180 degrees. The cam 9 now raises the container 31 so that the pistons 26, now above the ice-cream in the bores 25, contact the rods 27 and the combined weight of the pistons 26 and rods 27 force the ice-cream from the bores 25 into the cells 41.
