1452614 Preventing corrosion in reactors PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN NV 24 Oct 1973 [27 Oct 1972] 49458/73 Heading B1X [Also in Division C7] The inside wall of a reactor is protected from gaseous reactant by liquid reactors drawn up by the capillaries in a lining which completely or partially covers the inside wall, the gas supply and temperature of the reactor being controlled. The lining may consist of layers of metal wire gauze or metal wire between the wall and a cage of metal wire gauze, or of foamed metal, sintered metal grain or metal chips. Inert gas may be present. Means may be present to cut off gas supply above a given reactor pressure. A substance may be present which reacts at a quicker rate with the gaseous reactant than does the material comprising the wall of the reactor, but which reacts with the gas at a slower rate than does the liquid reactant. The reaction may be between Mg and TiCl 4 to give Ti and MgCl 2 , or between Li and SF 6 to produce heat that can be supplied to a thermodynamic engine, the products being LiF and Li 2 S.
