Abstract

1452219 Web feeding FMC CORP 31 Jan 1974 [15 May 1973] 04515/74 Heading B8R A web feeding device associated with a blank die-cutting machine and a web slitter as described in 1,396,911 comprises an unwind reel R, Fig. 1, from which a narrower web W is slit by the slitter 12, the web W, which is fed intermittently by rollers 31, into the blank cutting machine, being fed by rollers 18, 20 driven by a D.C. variable speed motor into a vaccum box in which the loop is controlled by a bank of photo-cells PC, 28, Fig. 2, the output of the photo-cells being used to control the speed of the motor 22 and thereby vary the speed of the rollers 18, 20. In the case of a transparent web the suction box is provided with a flexible opaque flap which obturates the light, between the photo-cells and their light sources, in conformity with the web loop formation. At the beginning of loop formation a switch 108 cuts out the motor 22 when the loop exceeds the permitted loop size L1, whereupon the photocells take over the control of web feed.
