Abstract

1451785 Super-conducting alloys KOBE STEEL Ltd 5 Oct 1973 [23 Jan 1973] 46537/73 Heading C7A Super-conducting alloy of composition:- The alloy may be prepared by tungsten arc melting a sponge, powder, particle or flake of the above composition into a water cooled copper mould using an inert gas atmosphere and the ingot formed vacuum sealed in a steel tube, hot forged, scalped to remove the steel, wrapped in titanium foil, vacuum annealed, cold swaged and drawn into wire form which may be solution treated in vacuum at 1,000‹C for 5 hours or heat-treated at 400‹C for 10 hours. The alloy may be used in super-conducting transformers, D.C. dynamos and magnetohydrodynamic generators.
