Abstract
1450701 Aerials SIEMENS-ALBIS AG 15 Oct 1973 [17 Oct 1972] 48506/73 Heading H4A An omnidirectional antenna system for a radar device monitoring movement of an object in an area under surveillance comprises a dielectric rod projecting from a waveguide horn, the projecting end of the rod carrying a conical reflector whose tip is directed towards the horn, the edge of the horn having a flange at whose periphery there is a frusto-conical surface extending away from the reflector, the flange and surface forming part of the housing of the device. As described, a housing 4 is axially symmetrical about an axis A, and has at its centre a duplexing arrangement comprising a cavity 2 and a diode 10. A rectangular crosssection waveguide 11 leads from the cavity 2 to a horn 6, and contains a radiator 1 which comprises a dielectric material rod 3. Said rod is graduated in step-wise manner within the waveguide 11, to improve impedance matching, and extends out of the horn 6 in a portion which is of circular cross-section. At the free end of the rod there is a conical reflector 5. The housing 4 provides a transverse flange 7 around the edge of the horn 6, which is continued in a truncated conical surface 8, opposed to the conical reflector 5. The aerial radiates symmetrically about the axis A and, by suitable proportioning of cone angles and sizes of reflecting surfaces, with maximum effect transversely to said axis. The housing 4 may contain a transmitter and associated receiver together with means for producing Doppler-type output signals due to moving targets. The aerial system may be mounted on the roof of a car.
