Abstract
1450573 Air cleaner; centrifugal separator ENGINEERING COMPONENTS Ltd 1 May 1974 [2 May 1973] 20766/73 Headings B1D and B2P An air filter for an I.C. engine intake comprises a cylindrical casing with a tangential inlet 4 and an inward flow annular filter element 6 which is cleaned by reverse flow air delivered through nozzle 12, the casing having an annular rubber flap valve 10 normally held against seat 11 by the internal suction but displaced therefrom by the reverse flow air to discharge dust from the space outside element 6. The interior of element 6 is divided by scoops 14, and a rotary valve 13 operated by a pneumatic ram (as described in Specification 880043) delivers reverse flow air to different sections through each nozzle 12 in turn. Inlet tube 16 is extended to draw air from a relatively dust-free zone well above the engine.
