Abstract

1449172 Preparing 1-aminoanthraquinone- 2-sulphonic acid IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 8 July 1974 [9 April 1973] 16876/73 Heading C4P 1 - Aminoanthraquinone - 2 - sulphonic acid is prepared by heating 1 -aminoanthraquinone with a water-soluble metal sulphite and manganese dioxide at 100-200‹ C. in an aqueous medium containing a water-miscible polar organic solvent inert to oxidation under the reaction conditions. Preferred solvents include pyridine, dimethylformamide or dimethylsulphonide.
