Abstract

Alkylpyridines (I) are reacted with a Co salt in a molar ratio 2 maintaining a concn. of cobaltic ions such that (2x-A) is between 0.1 and 1.5 (where x = the molarity of the cobaltic ions and Z = the molarity of the Co salt in the reaction medium) at 20-150 degrees C (pref. 40-80 degrees C) in a 2-4C aliphatic carboxylic acid in the presence of O2 at a p.p. of 0.2-20 atmos. (where R = 1-2C alkyl and m = 1-4). The prods. are pharmaceuticals or inters. for dyes, pigments, resins etc.
