Abstract

1448783 Glassware forming machine EMHART CORP 15 Feb 1974 [20 Feb 1973] 7025/74 Heading C1M An I.S. machine having a rotating drum 22 which operates through a system of levers and latches 21 to control valves in a valve block for directing air from a main supply manifold 12 to various pneumatically operated machine components is provided with a pneumatically operated shut off valve 54, a clutch 24 for the rotating drum which may be pneumatically disengaged, a secondary manifold 32 for supplying pressurized air to operate clutch 24 and shut off valve 54 and a normally closed manually operable emergency valve 30 which when opened connects the shut off valve and the clutch to the secondary air manifold 32. As shown, the opening of the emergency valve 30 enables air to pass from the secondary manifold 32 into branch line 52 to operate the valve 54 and branch line 122 to disengage the clutch 24. Air is also allowed to pass into a branch line 60 which is in parallel with some of the valves in the valve block to move some of the components to a desired rest position so that for example the moulds are opened on operation of the emergency valve. An accumulator 34 is provided in the secondary air manifold 32 so that the emergency valve can still operate in the event of total pressure failure. In addition to manual operation the emergency valve 30 can be operated by pressure in line 46 activated by a valve 50 provided with a manually operated plunger and which is located on the machine at a position remote from the valve 30. In a modification (Fig. 8) of the above described apparatus which is only capable of shutting down a single section at a time means is provided to shut down the whole machine. The line 46 is here in two sections 46a, 46b joined by a shuttle valve 200 so that the section 46a can be pressurized not only by operation of the valve 50 but also by pressurizing a manifold 206. Pressurizing the manifold 206 causes the shuttle valve 200 to establish communication between the manifold 206 and the line section 46a. The manifold is itself pressurized by activating any one of the machine emergency valves (218, 218a,...) each of which is located in a branch line 212, 212a, 214, 216.
