The flow of air to the producer 1 supplying gas to two sets of regenerative-ovens is controlled by a valve 5 operated by a regulator 6 in dependence on the pressure in the gas outlet line 9, the valve also being independently controlled from the reversing mechanism for the oven heating gas flow by means of a solenoid 8 so that upon, before or in concert with the opening of the gas cocks 14 or 15 of the corresponding set of ovens the full air supply is fed to the producer after completion of the pause for the change-over. Valves 13, 16, in the air and steam supply conduits are operated by hydraulic piston mechanisms 17, 18, supplied with pressure fluid from a governor 21 having a valve 23 operated by a solenoid 24 also controlled by the reversing mechanism so as to close valves 13, 16 for the short period when both banks of gas cocks 14, 15 are closed. As the reversing pulley 30 rotates further and gas cocks 14 open by means of a draw cable 48, contacts 37, 38 in the circuit of solenoid 8 are bridged and valve 5 is fully opened. The circuit of solenoid 24 is broken by the same movement of the reversing pulley so that both air and steam conduits are opened. To ensure opening of the valves in case of damage to the switch a diaphragm 42 in the gas line 9 is caused by the suction produced by opening of the gas cocks to withdraw a bridge piece 43 from contacts 44 in the solenoid circuit.
