Abstract

1448044 Lamp failure alarms WELWYN ELECTRIC Ltd 14 June 1974 26498/74 Heading G4N An alarm device for detecting the failure of a lamp 5 in its energized or un-energized state comprises a magnetic former 1, a first winding 2 in circuit with the lamp 5, a second winding 3 supplying current pulses and a third winding 4 for detecting the amplitude of a voltage or current induced in it as a result of a change in amplitude of the flux density caused by the lamp failure. In the un-energized state of the lamp, pulses are induced in the loop including winding 2, lamp 5 and a capacitor 27. With a faulty lamp, the amplitude of variations sensed by the winding 4 is large as either the former 1 is no longer magnetically saturated or that the pulses provided by winding 3 are no longer opposed by those induced in 2 and this change is sensed by a pulse amplitude discriminator 9 for activating a warning lamp or a buzzer 10. As an alternative to using two formers for a pair of lamps, in the embodiment of Fig. 3 (not shown), the lamps are connected to a pair of windings having a common connection connected to the energizing source.
