Abstract
1446136 Pipe insulation A SCHIBIG 5 April 1974 [6 April 1973] 15230/74 Heading F2P A thermal insulation covering for a pipeline comprising two separate half shells each of which has a cross section whose outline is composed of a radially outer semicircular line, a radially inner semicircular line and two zig zag lines joining the two semicircular lines in such a manner that the half shells, when positioned around a pipeline to be insulated form a rsilient snap joint, and when not so positioned are ineffective to form such a joint. Each dividing surface 3, between the two half shells 2a, 2b, has a zig zag configuration including an offset 4 joining two parallel parts wherein the angles 5 between the offset and the parallel parts are greater than 45 but less than 90 degrees, preferably 85 degrees, and the edges 6, are advantageously rounded with a radius from 1 to 6 mm, preferably 3À5 mm. If the two half shells 2a and 2b are placed around the pipe 1, and pressed together, they deflect resiliently apart, interlock and deflect back to their normal shape in interlocked condition which is maintained under coaction with the enclosed pipe.
