Abstract

1445021 Figure toy animating device MATTEL INC 4 Oct 1974 [26 Dec 1973] 43198/74 Heading A6S A figure toy having rotatable appendages and a torso, e.g. as described in Specification 1331035, is animated by a device 150 including a hand grip 152, having a trigger 156, which is releasably connected to the torso of the figure toy. The hand grip 152 is connected to the torso by means of a waist clamp 160 having pins 210 and 212 which are releasably held by means of thumb screw 214 and threaded plate 215 in bracket 204 pivotally connected by means of pin 162 to hand grip 152 to enable the figure toy to be swung through an arc. Hand grip 152 includes a sleeve 166 rotatable in a barrel portion 158 to enable a lever 164 to be selectively positioned to cause movement of a selected appendage of the figure toy when the lever '164 is moved by squeezing of the trigger 156 acting via lever 180 and push rod 190. Thus in the position shown in Fig. 6 squeezing of the trigger 156 causes the lever 164 to be raised to the position shown in dotted line thereby causing leg 70 to swing in a ballkicking motion. When the sleeve 166 is rotated to place lever 164 in the position shown in Figure 7 (not shown) squeezing of trigger 156 causes lever 164 to inwardly depress a plate 120 in the back of the figure toy to produce via rack 116 and pinion 102 a downwards movement of arm (82), Figure 1 (not shown), simulating e.g. karate chop. In the position shown in Figure 8 (not shown), squeezing of trigger 156 causes lateral movement of lever 164 to disengage latch (172) causing figure toy to swing in an arc about pivot pin 162 simulating e.g. a baseball batter. In the embodiment of Fig. 12, lever 164A is integral with trigger 156A for depressing plate 120 in the back of the figure toy to cause movement of arm (82). A separate lever 164B for causing movement of leg 70 is acted on by spring 217 which also acts on waist clamp 160A and encompasses pivot pin 162A. In this embodiment it is necessary to cook either leg-swinging lever 164B or waist clamp 160A agains.t force of spring 217. Thus if lever 164B is first cooked on squeezing trigger 156A lever 164B, having been held by ledge 218 on trigger 156A, is released to cause kicking motion of leg 70 and on further squeezing of trigger to inwardly depress plate 120 by means of lever 164A to cause arm movement as above. If however waist band 160A is cocked, on squeezing trigger 156A finger 223 is released from waist band 160A to cause figure toy to pivot about pin 162A under effect of spring 217.
