Abstract

144,488. Straumann, R. July 2, 1919. Starting.-A starting- device controlled from the driver's seat comprises a valve casing S mounted on a sparking- plug R, the valve A having a hollow stem with ports B adapted to register with a gas inlet E and a compression-relief outlet F. The valve is normally closed by springs M. and at starting is depressed in order to relieve compression by means of a cord D and a lever H. The cord D is then released, allowing the valve to close, and current is supplied to an electromagnet N, which attracts an armature I and opens the valve sufficiently to admit gas from the inlet E through the valve stem and the hollow electrode K. A mixture of acetylene and air may be supplied to the inlet E by a hand-pump connected to a mixing-device, Fig. 5, which has an air inlet P, an inlet U connected to a container of acetylene under pressure, and a non-return valve leading to the pump.
