1444841 Bridge support FRIED KRUPP GmbH 7 Jan 1974 [8 Jan 1973] 00697/74 Heading E1G A bridge support comprises a horizontal beam 1, which is raised until it supports a bridge deck 50, having a head 6 mounted on each end and independently rotatable about a longitudinal axis 9 of the beam 1, and a tube clamp 13 mounted on each head and rotatable about a transverse axis 15, the clamps 13 being adjustable along the legs 16. The heads 6 are retained on the beam 1 by claws 10 which grasp flange like circular discs 5 and which have a U sectioned. body 12 in which the tube clamps 13 are pivoted on journals 40. The beam 1 is raised up the legs 16 by jacks 47 mounted on a cross piece 36 and acting on a further cross piece 46 demountably engaged, by sliders 48, on grooved sleeves 43 over threaded spindles 37 which are attached, by straps 38, to the ends of the journals 40. After each stroke of the jack the nuts 42 are screwed down, the piston is retracted, and the sleeves 43 are lowered by hand wheels 45 (or the cross piece 46 is lowered on the sleeves 43). After raising the beam 1 it may be secured to the bridge deck 50 by locking devices 52. The beam and legs are moved to the required position under the bridge deck 50 by a trolley which runs along the top of the deck 50, and during movement the legs 16 are held horizontal by another trolley supporting their bottom ends, Figs. 14 to 17 (not shown). The legs 16 are assembled from sections which interlock by bayonet type fitting, Figs. 7 to 13 (not shown), and a foot plate is attached to the bottom end of each leg by a ball joint. The beam 1 comprises two or more box sections 2, hinged at the lower chord 3, and joined by a plate 4 at the upper chord. To obtain horizontal stability a pair of beams may be joined and the legs arranged to form a trestle, Fig. 18 (not shown).
