Abstract
1444029 Projectiles releasable from rockets or shells CONSTRUCTIONS NAVALES ET INDUSTRIELLES DE LA MEDITERRANEE 25 Oct 1973 [25 Oct 1972] 49744/73 Heading F3A A projectile releasable from a main rocket or shell for indirect firing against armoured vehicles, comprises means for rotating the projectile and means for sensing a vehicle and exploding a charge which projects a secondary projectile towards the vehicle. In an embodiment, the projectile comprises: a parachute 4 for braking the projectile's descent; a powder jet (not shown) or deployable fins 3 for rotating the projectile, whereby the beam from a target detector 6 sweeps a spiral path; and a charge 1 for projecting a secondary projectile, in the form of a plate 2, towards the vehicle. The detector 6 is a standing wave semi-conductor UHF radar. A mirror 7 reflects the beam from the radar. The parachute can be dispensed with if suitable vanes are provided. In another embodiment the projectile is adapted to descend to the ground and positions itself on a pivot before it starts rotating with the radar beam directed horizontally.
