Abstract

1443838 Liquid de-icer compositions A J BONNANZIO 5 July 1974 29961/74 Heading C4X A liquid composition, for treating an outdoor surface to prevent accumulation of ice and snow thereupon, comprises a solution in water of 30% to 45% by volume of at least one alkylene glycol having from 2 to 6 carbon atoms and a compatible organic dye containing sulphonic acid groups, the dye being present in an amount sufficient to impart to the composition a visible coloration when the composition is in contact with the surface. Suitable dyes are aromatic sulphonic acids, nitroso-sulphonic acids, monoazo-sulphonic acids, diazosulphonic acids and anthraquinone sulphonic acids. Suitable alkylene glycols are ethylene glycol, propylene glycol or a mixture thereof. The composition is preferably applied to the surface by pressurized spraying directly upon the surface.
