Abstract

1443050 Automatic control of printing CASIO COMPUTER CO Ltd 21 Dec 1973 [25 Dec 1972] 59607/73 Heading G3N An electronic tab-setting arrangement for a typewriter includes a register storing a number of tab-set positions, and a counter which is stepped in synchronism with the typewriter mechanism. When a head tab-set position is reached, a corresponding control signal causes return movement of the printing head to stop. As shown, a left hand margin determining head tab-set position is supplied through an AND circuit 19 to a shift register 11 synchronized by clockpulses from a generator 14 with a second register 13 which stores digital information indicative of the position of printing head 18. When a head return instruction is supplied through OR gate 24 and flip-flop 25 to the head motor control circuit 15, an AND gate 23 is enabled so that coincidence between the registers 11, 13 produces an output signal through OR gate 26 to reset flip-flop 25 and stop the head motor in the head tab-set position. The arrangement also controls the right hand printing margin, in that a circuit comprising a flipflop 28 and delay circuits 27, 29 responds to coincidence between register 13 and a last tab-set position stored in register 11 to produce a signal which sets flip-flop 25 through OR gate 24, causing the control circuit 15 to initiate the return movement of the printing head. An alternative shifting arrangement is also described, Fig. 4 (not shown), using a variable length register.
