Abstract
1442852 Bituminous compositions comprising heat treated fillers SOC GENERALE DES CIMENTS PORTLAND DE L'ESCAUT EN ABREGE CIMESCAUT SA 9 July 1973 [13 July 1972] 32692/73 Heading C3N A road-surfacing composition comprises a mixture of aggregate, a mineral filler and asphalt, bitumen or tar as a binder, the filler having a voluminal ratio of not more than 1À31, and comprising a hydrated mineral which has been subjected to heat treatment at 200-800‹ C. providing the mineral with a degree of swelling not more than 3% by volume. The hydrated mineral may be a natural hydrated silicate, e.g. kaolinite, antigonite, sepiolite, polygorskite or a mixture thereof. The composition may also contain a conventional filler, e.g. shale, sandstone, fly ash, industrial slag, feldspar, mica or amphibole. The hydrated mineral may also be in admixture with a mineral carbonate suitable for use as a filler and the mixture is subjected to the heat treatment at a temperature of at most 500‹ C. whereby the resulting filler does not contain any free base.
