Abstract
1442517 Vacuum furnaces WALL COLMONOY CORP 31 Oct 1974 [2 Nov 1973] 47166/74 Heading F4B A vacuum heat treatment furnace comprises an outer shell 20 enclosing an insulating liner 42 carrying heating elements 70, a removable sealed lid 32, an inlet port 12 and outlet port 14 connected to a circuit including a vacuum pump and a supply of inert cooling gas, e.g. argon, superposed baffles 58 and 62 above the liner 42 with an opening 60 for the cooling gas, discharge tube 52 with a baffle 54 and a charge support 68 the circuit (Fig. 4) incorporating a Rootes blower (94) which also circulates the cooling gas through a heat exchanger (106) and an additional vacuum pump (96). The elements 70 are graphite tape resistances and the outer shell incorporates cooling elements 86. The lid 32 includes a flange 34 with a groove 36 enclosing a resilient 0-ring 38 seating on a top panel 26. The liner 42 comprises a sheet steel wall 44, 46 with supporting legs 48 and an insulating layer 84 such as carbon felt or ceramic fibre. Temperature and pressure measuring devices in the furnace control the supply of cooling inert gas.
