1442369 Wrapping soap GD SpA 27 Dec 1973 [9 May 1973] 59813/73 Heading B8C A machine for wrapping pieces of soap P with a plurality of sheets S, S<SP>1</SP> comprises a wrapping head T, T<SP>1</SP> for each sheet, each wrapping head being driven by an unidirectional intermittent movement derived from the continuous drive of the machine which also drives movable wrapping members of the heads. Each piece is moved by a pusher 93 and counter pusher 94 from a pocket 92 of a feed conveyor onto a plate 105 which raises the piece to pushers 117a and 117b shaped to fit the piece. A cardboard blank S, which may have been cut from a web and scored, is fed to adjacent the sharpened leading edges of the pushers 117a and 117b which, aided by a counter pusher 118, push the piece and blank through a block 129 having rollers 600, 601, 604, 605 to fold the blank into a U-shape around the piece and teeth 129e, 129f to fold end flaps c<SP>1</SP> inwardly. The thus partly wrapped piece is then pushed into a compartment M of the multi-compartment head or wheel T. Side plates 608, 609 of the compartment are pivoted outwardly by a cam 146, 147 to receive the piece. A plate 150 holds the piece while the pushers 117a, 117b are withdrawn. A blade 161 folds end panel a downwardly and the other end panel e is folded over the panel a as the compartment moves past folder 167. At the bottommost position of the compartment, U-shaped member 168 folds up end flaps a<SP>1</SP> and c<SP>1</SP> and plates 174, 175 fold end flaps b<SP>1</SP> inwardly, end flaps d<SP>1</SP> being folded over the end flaps b<SP>1</SP> by plates 190, 191 when the compartment moves forwards. A pusher 192 pushes the wrapped piece out of the compartment and against a thermoplastics or metallised paper sheet S<SP>1</SP> which is wrapped about the piece by a block 254 and the head T<SP>1</SP> in a similar way to the wrapping of blank T. Plates 276, 277 of the head T<SP>1</SP> are electrically heated and are advanced against the folded end flaps of sheet S<SP>1</SP> to seal the flaps which are either of thermoplastics or are glued, the end flaps being folded over the outside of side plates 221, 222 of each compartment. The wrapped packages are pushed onto a plate 309, and are advanced thereon by belts (310) and have their end panels A, E sealed by a vertically movable horizontal plate.
