Abstract

1388141 Making trays G BRAGAGLIA and F GROSSI 5 May 1972 [5 May 1971] 21152/72 Heading B5D [Also in Division B8] A machine for erecting the blanks of Fig. 2 comprises means for removing individual blanks 2 from a magazine A, means for inserting the blank into a former to erect the sides, and means for doubling over the upper parts of the sides. The machine is intermittently driven by a Geneva wheel 3. The lowermost blank 2 of a stack 1 in the magazine A is engaged by a tooth 15 on a chain 17, passes beneath a member (13) allowing the passage of only one blank and is passed by rollers B to abut a stop 19. A plate 24 operated by a pneumatic cylinder 25 and triggered by a microswitch (23) pushes the blank through a former 26 and into a container forming tray 7 carried by a double chain drive 6. The shorter sides of the tray are doubled over by folders D and E, the folders D each comprising cam-operated pivotal arms (31) advanced by cylinders (28) to fold the upper parts of the sides to a horizontal position and the folder E, which is lowered into the tray by a pneumatic cylinder (35), comprising folders (39) extended by racks (44, 47), a double spool (46) and a pneumatic cylinder (42) at 45 degrees to the sides to fold them further inwardly and insert the tabs 40 in the slots 41. The longer sides of the tray are folded over by folders F, each comprising rotary folders 52, and a folder G similar to the folder E. The completed trays are ejected on to a conveyer 59. The former 26 and container forming trays 7 are adjustable to receive trays of different sizes.
