144,206. MacGregor, P. G. Dec. 15, 1919. Stoppers with inwardly-opening valves. - A vacuum relief valve, more particularly intended for incorporation with a filler-cap for a receptacle, is fitted in the cylindrical recess 7 in the filler-cap 1, Fig. 2. A central passage 8 leads from the recess 7 into a boss 5, which has one or more radial openings 9 communicating with the air. The valve member, Fig. 7, comprises a metal stamping formed with an end portion 11 and with flattened sides 12 and a recess 13 to receive a leather or like disk 14 which forms the valve facing. Another metal stamping, Fig. 8, is formed as a cup which is held in frictional engagement with the walls of the recess 7, the slots 18 ensuring a slight yielding of the walls of the cup. The valve member is made of such a diameter that the prongs 16 fit into the cup member 17. A coiled spring 20 normally presses the valve against its seat, and the valve is opened on reduction of pressure in the receptacle. The flattened side portions of the valve member provide a passage for the air in the receptacle.
