1441604 Suction cleaners SUNBEAM CORP 6 July 1973 [10 July 1972] 32232/73 Heading A4F [Also in Division B1] A suction cleaner has an elongate casing 26 closed by front and rear caps 22, 24, respectively, having a hose inlet and air discharge outlet openings 186, 256, the forward end of the casing housing a dust bag holder, e.g. a plastics basket 116 behind which is a suction unit, e.g. a fan-motor limit 132 and the casing 26 comprises upper and lower shells 232, 234, each having flanges 236 or 240 extending outwardly on opposite sides of the casing, the respective pairs of upper and lower flanges 236, 240 abutting and being enclosed by a pair of resilient bumpers 28, e.g. of polyvinyl chloride. The front cap 22 has removable bumper sections 98, and the rear cap 24 has integrally moulded bumper sections 100. The fan-motor unit 132 draws air through the hose inlet tube 184, a dustbag 176 in the basket 116, and a polyurethane foam filter 146, and discharges it through a polyurethane foam filter 220, apertures (not shown) in the supply cable reel 102, and apertures 256 in the cap 24. The supply cable is withdrawn by pulling it upwardly through a grommet 106 at the top of the cap 24 so that the cleaner is not displaces laterally by the pulling. In vertical channels 54, 56 in the cap 24 may be stored metal extension suction tubes 50, 52, which when so stored may serve as handles for moving the machine. A tool holding assembly is provided at the top of the cleaner and incorporates a handle 58 by which the whole cleaner may be lifted. The cleaning suction is controlled by setting a valve 88 in the front-cap 22 in one of five positions, as determined by a detent device, to regulate a bleed flow of air into the space within the cleaner casing surrounding the filter 178. The filling of the dust bag or clogging of the suction tools or tubes is indicated by the collapse of a rubber dome 90 provided as an indicator adjacent the valve 88.
